Warriors Close Out Summer With Sweep Of Seaside II, 7/14

Thomas McFadden homered and Reese Johnson picked up a complete game victory as the Warrenton Warriors defeated the Seaside Division II team 6-4 at Huddleston Field Monday in the league half of a doubleheader.

The Warriors ten-runned Seaside in game two, winning 13-2 in five innings to finish the summer season with an even 7-7 District 1 mark.

Seaside, which had eight hits including five for extra bases off Warrenton starter Reese Johnson, scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead before the Warriors countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

The bottom three batters in Warrenton's order scored the game-winning runs. In addition to McFadden's blast, Seaside's Joel Slovak and Nick Nelson also homered. Andy Pittard, Eddie Soller and Ben DeGandi all doubled for Seaside.

In game two, Billy Kerr pitched into the fifth inning with Beau Torres recording the final two outs. Kerr and Reese Johnson each had three hits and Josh Salber doubled for Warrenton.

"There are some things that were good and some things that weren't so good," said Warrenton head coach Lennie Wolfe of his young team. "We have a lot of work to do to prepare for next year."

Both teams' seasons ended Monday. No Division II teams will represent District 1 in the regional or state OJBA playoffs after both Astoria and Seaside declined to continue their seasons and Warrenton was unable to assemble enough players to extend its season as a Division II team.
