Summer Day Camp At Maritime Museum

Summer Day Camp at Columbia Maritime Museum

It is not too early to begin planning your child’s summer. The Columbia River Maritime Museum will be offering two sessions of “Navigating the Past” summer day camp beginning in July. Each session provides an opportunity for your child to learn more about this area’s rich history through a variety of activities.

The Museum is now accepting registration for both camp sessions. Space is limited so don’t delay in signing up your child, or grandchild. Sessions fill quickly. Each five-day session is filled with arts and crafts, hands-on activities, outdoor explorations, experiments, and an afternoon of swimming.

Each session runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for children going into grades three through six. Sessions will be grouped by grade level in order to meet the needs of different skill levels and abilities. Skilled staff will lead campers in a variety of activities throughout the week.

The first session is July 7 – 11 for students going into third and fourth grades. Oceans will be our focus as we travel around the world exploring different cultures, learning about various animals that live in the ocean, and cooking lunch at the Seafood Cooking School. Session two runs from August 4 – 8 and is reserved for children going into fifth and sixth grades. This session takes a closer look at the Columbia River. Campers will participate in engineering projects, experience Victorian life in Astoria, and enjoy hands-on activities related to the river.

The registration fee is $60 for Museum members and $85 for non-members. Children will need to provide their own lunch each day.

Pre-registration is required. Registration information is available at the Columbia River Maritime Museum. For more information call Betsey Ellerbroek, Education Director, at 503-325-2323.
