Seaside city manager Mark Winstanley will bring back a request for proposals needed to recruit a consultant to determine the feasibility of expanding the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. Ad-hoc committee chair Jeff Kilday tells the council preliminary work indicates that the convention center could have booked thirty more events over the past year if there was additional room. The 62,000-square foot facility has in actuality only 22,000-square feet in meeting space. That’s a negative economic impact of $8.4-million in lost dollars.
The city’s hotel/motel tax could pay for the feasibility study, which may cost up to $30,000. The feasibility study will look at property acquisition, as well as the possibility of horizontal expansion at the present building.
