At a work session today the Clatsop County Commissioners will hear that it's unlikely private developers would want to take on projects on the Delaura Beach property. The Commissioners discussed the idea of opening up the sale of the 500 acre parcel to a request for proposals process in the hope that a developer might offer the county more cash than than the state parks department has offered. County staff was directed to look at the feasibility of the proposal.
County Manager Scott Derickson told KAST news Tuesday afternoon that after reviewing the challenges the property would present to development with dunes and wetlands restrictions staff has concluded that it might be best to take the states offer of roughly 1.3 million dollars. This recommendation mirrors that of the recreational land advisory committee.
It will be up to the commissioners to make the decision. Today's work session is an opportunity for the commission to discuss the report and if there is consensus then the commissioners may back the state proposal and vote in regular session to proceed.
Derickson says that there is an executive session scheduled for the end of today's meeting regarding a possible proprty transaction but says this is not related to the Delaura Beach matter.
