The Kerby Mainline Fire, Josephine County - four miles east of Cave Junction, was reported at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 19. It burned 69 acres Saturday and Sunday through brush and timber in steep terrain on private and Bureau of Land Management lands.
Engines and firefighters from several agencies and private companies joined in the firefighting effort, including the Oregon Department of Forestry's Medford and Grants Pass Units, Douglas Forest Protective Association, Illinois Valley Fire District, Rural/Metro Fire Department, Rogue River Fire District, and the U. S. Forest Service, in addition to support from public agencies in Josephine County. Line is completed around the fire perimeter and aggressive mop-up continues today, with full containment estimated by 6:00 p.m. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
