City councilor Blair Henningsgaard says a lot of progress has been made on Astoria’s waterfront visioning process , which is led by a citizens committee. Four waterfront zones with separate visions have been developed including the port, downtown, and Uppertown. He says the zones are “intuitive” but also a product of public input.
Public concerns about a perceived influx of condominiums along the waterfront in large part led the city to undertake the visioning process. The city council in February awarded a $66,000 contract with the firm of Cogan Owens Cogan to undertake a visioning process for the city’s waterfront. A $30,000 state Department of Land Conservation and Development grant is now used for phase two of the visioning process to draft the vision.
