The Astoria city council is informed of a $37,511 contract for the replacement of ninety-feet of the 4th street sewer main. The old infrastructure was damaged by a sink hole that appeared in April. Thirty residences could have lost their sewer service without the city’s quick action. City manager Paul Benoit says the emergency contract went to Wilkins Construction. Benoit says the council should have been put in the loop sooner and he takes responsibility for that. City code requires the council to be informed as soon as possible. Benoit says the work was completed in May and council notification now is unacceptable. The council will discuss the emergency contract for the 14th street public works project at the next regular meeting.
