Experienced athletes and amateurs alike will enjoy this unique opportunity to cross the mighty Columbia River on foot during the 27th Annual Great Columbia Crossing 10K Walk/Run. Participants will start the race in Washington, cross the 4.1 mile-long Astoria-Megler Bridge – typically open to vehicle and cycle traffic only – and finish in Oregon. The longest continuous three-span through truss bridge in the world, the Astoria-Megler Bridge rises 205 feet above the river, offering a challenging incline as well as panoramic views of the the historic Astoria and Warrenton communities.
Date: Sunday, October 12, 2008
Time: The race 9 a.m. (Shuttles to starting line leave earlier from both Astoria, Oregon and Chinook, WA.)
Where: From the race registration station in Astoria, walkers and runners can catch the shuttle bus to the starting line.
Registration: Adults 19 years old and over $25 before Oct. 1 and $30 after. Children 8 to 18 years old $15.
Entry fees include shuttle bus service, parking, and a clam chowder lunch.
Long Sleeve T-shirts can be purchased for an additional $15.
